Welcome to The Tower of Bab-Il. You won't find a lot of fancy HTML, JavaScript, or pretty graphics here, but you will find what is probably the most complete compilation of information on the internal workings of the SNES game Final Fantasy 2 anywhere on the web. Why would you want such information? Because with it, you could hack the game to make it harder or even create a completely new game using the FF2 engine.

What's New

10-01-2000
Updated the RAM data and spell effect data documents with a lot of new information. Updated the battle data record and elemental and status documents a bit. Added a document on the monster attack sequences.
09-04-2000
Added a patch: a new command for Rydia (once she has grown up).
09-03-2000
Reversed the bit order yet again, and updated the conventions document. All of the other documents now clearly state whether they use "normal" or "reverse" bit order, as some sections of the code use normal while other sections use reverse. All documents now include a date of last modification and the URL of this page. Some new documents were added. Some old documents had new info added. Re-read everything.
07-15-2000 evening/07-16-2000 early morning
Reversed the bit order in existing documents and added some more information on the conventions used by this site and the game program itself.

Or perhaps you are more interested in practical applications of this knowledge. I currently have the following ROM patches in IPS format available for download:

Zerosoft's IPSWin program or another IPS patcher is needed to apply this or any other IPS patch. This patch has only been tested on version 1.0 of the FF2 ROM (that includes a header).

Most of this information was the result of a lot of my own hard work hacking the game, although some of it came from the document written by Yousei that is included with his/her/its FF4 Editor.
